The Family Program is an important part of the recovery process at Recovery Ways. The purpose of our program is to educate and support our client’s families about the impact they have felt from addiction. Our program will challenge and strengthen the family unit. Family members say they experience meaningful healing of their own during the Recovery Ways Family Program.
Our Family Program is a safe and therapeutic place to recognize and discuss painful issues. We teach family members how to be supportive, acknowledge unhealthy habits and heal together. The Recovery Ways Family Program is often life-changing because relationships begin to mend. As the family heals, clients and family members are encouraged to use the skills they learned to develop healthy relationships.
The Family Program creates a way for family members to identify and change their unhealthy ways of relating to each other. The family is taught skills that will support the changes in their loved ones. This is important in the development of a discharge and aftercare plan. This plan can be given to other professionals who you may use to support the client’s ongoing recovery after leaving Recovery Ways.
What to Expect at Recovery Ways Family Program
The Recovery Ways Family Program is two full days of activities. The days are set up to help you understand your family member’s addiction (whether it is substance abuse, dual diagnosis, cross addiction, or chronic pain.) The program has family therapy as well as instruction and activities similar to those your loved one has experienced in treatment.
Each day of the program you will meet with staff members who have been working with your family member. These meetings are to help you understand your family member’s condition. We discuss past, present and future concerns about addiction and the recovery process. Discharge Planning will also be discussed so you can be supportive in their ongoing recovery. Many families find it helpful to continue individual and family therapy after treatment.
At the end of Recovery Ways Family Program you will have:
- A better understanding of your loved one’s addiction
- An opportunity to discuss your concerns about your loved one’s treatment
- An understanding of the role of healthy boundaries and communication
- Detail of your loved one’s discharge plan
